Descent & Return Intensives
Where are you on your map?
There are times in our lives when the familiar ways of understanding ourselves no longer seem to fit. Something has ended. Something is changing. Something is calling.
You may be navigating a significant life transition, loss, identity shift, creative awakening, existential questioning, or simply a quiet knowing that life can no longer remain the same.
Descent & Return is a three-day, one-to-one immersive experience rooted in the universal stories of transformation found in myth, archetype, creativity, and ritual.
Rather than beginning with “Where should I go?” we begin somewhere else:
❋ Where am I? Together, we listen for what has been calling you, locate where you are within the larger story of your life, and create space for whatever is asking to be explored.
I'll meet you where you are.
Together, we'll discover where you are on your map.
The Journey of Descent & Return
The intensive moves through four interconnected phases. Although there is a natural movement between them, this is not a rigid or linear process.
We follow the landscape that emerges.
Ritual of Orientation
Where am I?
Every meaningful journey begins with orientation.
We begin with conversation, storytelling, creative exploration, symbolism, and the creation of a living Threshold Map.
Together, we explore what has brought you here and begin identifying the landmarks of your current inner landscape.
What We May Explore:
❋ The Call What has been asking for your attention - and has become difficult to ignore?
❋ The Threshold
What are you standing between? What is ending, changing, or beginning to emerge?
❋ The Gatekeepers
What fears, patterns, loyalties, expectations, or obstacles make this crossing difficult?
❋ The Guides
Who or what helps you remember yourself and supports you along the way?
❋ The Longing
What feels alive beneath the uncertainty? What is quietly calling you forward?
❋ The Gifts Already Gathered
What strengths, wisdom, creativity, and resources have you gathered through the life you've already lived?
❋ Symbols
What images, dreams, landscapes, colors, objects, animals, or other symbols are accompanying this chapter?
❋ Archetypes
What roles or archetypal energies have shaped your story? Which may be exhausted, changing, or beginning to emerge?
More About the Map
The Threshold Map is created collaboratively on a large mixed-media surface. We may work with drawing, writing, collage, paint, natural and found materials - even the tea we share, its stains and leaves, the earth beneath our feet, or other materials available to us.
It isn't intended to become a beautiful piece of art.
It is intended to become your map.
By the end of our Ritual of Orientation, the intention is beautifully simple…
You leave knowing where you are.
Descent
What is asking to be explored?
Once we have oriented ourselves, we can choose to move more deeply into the landscape we've uncovered.
Descent is an invitation to spend time with what may live beneath the surface: grief, uncertainty, changing identities, old stories, fears, contradictions, desires, creativity, resistance, and the questions that cannot always be answered through thinking alone.
We may work through conversation, creative practice, ritual, archetypal exploration, symbolism, embodied awareness, time in nature, or whatever forms of exploration best serve the person and the moment.
There is no predetermined depth we must reach.
You remain in relationship with your own pace, boundaries, and readiness throughout the experience.
Return
What wants to come back with me?
Return does not mean going back to who you were before.
It is the process of noticing what has shifted and gathering what you want to carry forward.
We may explore the wisdom that has emerged, strengths or parts of yourself that have been reclaimed, identities that are changing, and the gifts discovered along the way.
The question becomes less What happened to me? and more:
What do I want to bring home from this?
Integration
How do I live this?
Our final phase brings the experience back into ordinary life.
Insight alone does not create change. Integration gives us time to consider how what you have discovered might live alongside your relationships, creativity, work, parenting, boundaries, choices, practices, and everyday rhythms.
We may create a closing ritual, add final elements to your Threshold Map, identify practices or creative anchors, or develop other ways of carrying the experience forward.
The intensive ends, but your relationship with what you have discovered does not.
What a Three-Day Intensive Looks Like
Descent & Return takes place over three consecutive or closely connected days.
Each day includes approximately 90 minutes of one-to-one immersive time, with flexibility depending upon what is unfolding. Sessions may take place in your home, outdoors, or in another mutually agreed-upon setting.
Our work is not limited to the time we spend sitting together. The space between meetings is intentionally part of the experience. Reflection, noticing, creative invitations, and limited text or phone connection allow the work to continue unfolding between sessions.
Each intensive is individually created. No two maps - and no two journeys - will look the same. Small-group immersions may also be available by request.
The pace belongs to you.
Descent & Return has an intentional arc, but you are never required to move farther than feels right for you.
Sometimes Orientation reveals that it is time to descend. Sometimes it reveals that it is time to return. And sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is remain exactly where we are for a while and learn more about that place.
There is no prize for moving quickly.
The purpose of the map is to help us honor where you are.
Investment
I believe meaningful work should be both valued and as accessible as possible. These investment options are offered in that spirit. Each traveler receives the same depth of presence, preparation, creativity, and care regardless of the rate they choose.
Supported Rate - $500
For those who would benefit from a reduced rate while making a meaningful investment in the experience.
Sustaining Rate - $650
The standard investment, reflecting the time, preparation, materials, presence, and care involved in creating and holding a three-day immersion.
Community Support Rate - $750
For those with greater financial flexibility who would like their investment to help support the continued accessibility of RiverWaterHealing offerings for others. If none of these levels reflects your current circumstances, please don't let that become a barrier to reaching out. We can have an honest conversation and find an arrangement that feels respectful, sustainable, and caring for us both.
Answering The Call
You don't need to know exactly what you are looking for before you arrive.
You don't need to know what the next chapter is.
And you certainly don't need to have figured everything out.
If something within you has been asking for your attention, we can begin there.
